John Lyons is Chicago born and bred. Chances are, you’ve come across his work at some point in the city and never knew it. Lyons has a career spanning more than three decades and has worked on high level, multimillion dollar projects in the City of Chicago. He is licensed as both a stationary engineer and supervising electrician, and is a registered electrical contractor and registered general contractor. Lyons has deep operational knowledge in manufacturing, commercial and residential real estate, hospitals, schools and other industries.
He began his career in 1973 as a boiler fireman for CNA Insurance, and then spent ten years at the American Medical Association, where he served as Chief Engineer for the latter part of his tenure there. He was Chief Engineer for both Fifield Asset Management and later, Amerimar Chicago Management. At Fifield, Lyons was responsible for energy management; the administration and operation of the central plant and all office operations; and performing property evaluations on the mechanical systems and operations of 22 commercial locations. While at Amerimar, he oversaw a $120 million project to convert a 1.8 million square foot warehouse into a mixed-use development of telecommunications, commercial office and retail operations.
In 1989, Lyons formed his own electrical utility consulting firm, where he obtained more than $4 million in credits for commercial building clients. He later founded BKE Mechanical, where he specialized in electrical and mechanical consulting. BKE Mechanical managed a major project involving the redesign, fabrication and conversion of a natural gas waste gasification unit into an electrical powered unit. He also created BKE Contracting, a general contracting company serving commercial, industrial and retail clients.
Lyons believes great customer service starts with trust, and that it’s important to treat his clients’ money as if it were his own.
He is an avid golfer and equity trader, private pilot, and certified scuba diver. Lyons also volunteers regularly in various ministries at his church. He and his wife, Laurie, have been married 26 years and have three children, Brett, Kelly & Erinn. Their first initials determined the name of the company -- BKE!
